Cyanotype on old bedsheet, tracing paper transparency; found chest from beach.

Womb Envy

Womb envy posits that men feel a lack about women’s biological abilities, and it was a

feminist trope that the bloodshed of war and destruction was their response to this.

Being constantly furious at the mostly anonymous mainly white men who have lied and misinformed, and trashed our planet for their own greed over the last 40 years is overwhelming. Sometimes I cannot ignore it, and so I committed to make the names of a few of those men known through my art.

The foundation of my practice is to minimise harm to the environment, so typical darkroom printed photography is no longer possible. Instead, I have been using a variety of materials and processes, not all perfect, and also meaning the process is much slower as I try to figure out ways of making. I have been using cyanotypes, anthotypes, bioplastic, found items from the beach, montage and inclusion of my old photos and acetates, sometimes combining many of these into one work. A lot of the work will not be archival, but that seems apt.
